critical tool for the job August 6, 2010 Chris Katayanagi (Berkeley, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I can't believe I thought I could have replaced my ball joints with a 4 inch c-clamp instead of this set! My plan was to buy this and maybe return it if I didn't need it or sell it when I was done. It was easy to use and worked well. The whole time I was using it I was saying to myself, "I sure am glad I bought this thing". I can't wait for my ball joints to wear out again so I can use the tool again--ok, not really, but it was a joy to use. This is one of those tools that do a specific task perfectly and more-importantly for the male of the species...intuitively without any need to read a manual.
I didn't try and use it on the vehicle, which, given the weight of the tool would have been much more difficult I think. Of course, I was going to try and use a c-clamp so maybe my predictions and estimations should be questioned. I actually didn't see obvious markings as to the tool's origin--maybe I'm blind? I'm hoping it was made in the USA. It is disturbing that nothing is manufactured in this country anymore. I know we want everything cheap, but we're going to pay for our inability to manufacture anything eventually. I'm hardly a nationalist, but we need to buy american when possible, so hopefully I did. sermon is over...
If you're replacing your own ball joints (and love to buy tools instead of borrowing or renting) this tool is indispensable. I saw some reviews complaining of slow shipping. I got this delivered in 4 days with free super saver shipping.
THE REAL DEAL May 23, 2010 reviewer (NJ USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I use this for everything. The c clamp in this kit is very handy to have around. I used this tool on an 1986 Monte Carlo with original ball joints and it popped them out without a single problem. Presses them in without a single problem. Its easy to use and definitely a money saver if you are a do it yourself mechanic, so you dont have to remove control arms and take them to the parts store to be pressed, or take the car to a shop. Simply attach the proper cups and turn the screw until its out. Takes mere minutes.
Great Tool! May 7, 2010 Darin Huartson 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The OTC 7249 Ball Joint set was a great purchase. It worked flawlessly and easily pressed out/in the ball joints on my 2001 Ford F250 . It required the use of various adapters which I did not purchase. I made my adapters out of pieces of pipe and tubing that I had. Excellent tool for the money spent.
Excellent tool April 26, 2010 unohu69 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Got this pres after reading the reviews, figured if it was good enough for a shop it would hold up. There was a delay in shipping and it took longer to get this than i expected, and i had to cancel the order and place it with a different vendor which cost me a little more, however once it did get here, I did all 4 ball joints on a jeep Cherokee, and pressed out the steering stabilizer mount. This press took all the abuse didnt even bend a little bit. still straight. Just make sure you grease up the threads before you use it. worth every penny. I also bought the jeep ball joint adapter cups for removal and installation, also worth every penny.
