So, to allow you to access extra information about your car we would like to introduce the ScanGauge 3-in-1 Auto Computer. This gadget is easy to install and provides a set of digital gauges, a comprehensive trip computer, and an engine trouble code scan tool. The digital gauges mode displays four different properties on the screen (for example, fuel economy, battery voltage, coolant temperature, and engine speed). The trip computer tracks your vehicle's maximum speed, average speed, driving time, driving distance, trip fuel economy and several other pieces of trip data. The engine trouble code scan tool lets you read standard engine trouble codes as well as clear the "check engine" light and other warning lamps. The ScanGauge is simple to use and install and mounts in, on or below the dash. It plugs into the diagnostic OBD-II connector found under the dash on 1996 and newer cars and light trucks. The functions are accessed via a simple on-screen menu interface. There is an automatic delayed power-down after engine shutoff and automatic power-up when engine is started. User and vehicle settings are automatically saved.

The ScanGaugeII includes a diagnostic scan tool that can check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), clear the codes, and turn off the "Check Engine" light on 99% of 1996 and newer vehicles. (However, this feature may not work on some trouble codes in Dodge vehicles.) If any DTCs are found, the ScanGauge will show how many there are as well as the codes themselves. Then you can use the Internet or repair manual to find out which is the failed part is, so you can repair it yourself or know what needs to be fixed at the mechanic's shop. Multifunction Trip Computer
Four sets of data are automatically recorded on the trip computer: Current, Today, Previous Day, and Tank Trip. The "current" trip restarts after the engine has been off for more than 3 minutes. The "today" trip restarts after the vehicle has not moved for 9 hours, and the data from "today" is moved to "previous day" when you restart the car, so you don't have to reset the computer every time you begin a trip. "Tank trip" resets when you fill up the tank. It can provide you with "to empty" data and other useful information, which can be viewed any time during the trip. The trip computer also integrates information from the Cost Per Mile gauge. Simply enter how much you paid per gallon or liter of fuel, and the ScanGauge will automatically calculate the cost of your trips as you drive.  Flakey performance unit performance on and off September 6, 2010

At first this gage worked great but more and more it quits working. It either fails to communicate with the vehicle and then times out and turns off, or it stops working and refuses to start again correctly when you try to start it while the vehicle is running. There are troubleshooting sections discussing these very problems but the manufacturer solutions do not work. I am ready to return this item or contact the manufacturer to see if they have updated firmware gages that I can exchange. Features are great if the device would just work correctly.
Using as Water Temp Gauge for 2009 Elantra August 22, 2010

The 2009 Elantra comes without a temperature gauge, and I purchased a ScanGauge II to provide this basic information.
I was very pleased with the product and the ease of setup. However, I noticed that the Water Temperature on startup was not ambient, but around 130 deg F.
I emailed Scan Gauge II asking if the ambient temperature should be displayed on startup. The rep was quick to assert that there was nothing wrong with the unit, and that the unit displays what the sensor provides. The rep suggested no troubleshooting techniques, or any other ideas to determine what the issue was.
Transferring the unit to my 2003 toyota corolla resolved the issue. The Corolla displays ambient water temperature on startup.
So
1. Should you have problems, don't count on helpful customer service. You are on your own, friend.
2. Either the sensor on my Elantra is broken, or the minimum temp it displays is 130 f.
3. A car should have a temperature gauge. Shame on Hyundai for cheaping out. And shame on me for not noticing. I would not have purchased the car if I had noticed.

I've had this for almost 3 months, and it has helped me improve my gas mileage when towing. I've found out that not using the cruise control can add to the MPG. Throttle postion plays a big part in MPG-I can get higher MPG traveling at a higher speed sometimes if I stay light on the gas pedal. I also like the temp functions (water temp) as I can monitor how it is doing under load. Still playing with it, checking out different functions. You will have to experiment with it as many functions on the X-gauge are not supported by my truck (06 F-150), but you won't know till you do all of the programing and see if anything happens. Easy hook-up, took less than 5 minutes. It has helped me increase my MPG at least 1-2 MPG by learning new techniques and I average 10-12MPG towing my 5,000lb travel trailer, so I'm a happy camper

This is my second SG2, my first one was stolen from my car, but now I have an extra cable! I primarily use it in my wife's car for MPG feedback. My wife appreciates the miles to empty gauge and has found that she modify's her driving style when she has the instant MPG readout. I occasionally will use it for reading trouble codes. (I have only had one, a fuel vent trouble that wouldn't clear, but the SG cleared it for me.)
If you are trying to save fuel, this is your gauge. (Assuming that you have a compatible vehicle, see their web site.)
If you want a cheapish code scanner, this does fine. (You will need the manual or the internet to decode the trouble codes, but that is easy enough.) It will clear the codes if they are not active.

I just got this last week, had been thinking about it for a while. This thing has altered the way I drive, just got it and already has increased my mileage by about 5mpg. That makes it more than pay for itself in just 1 year if all goes well with it.
