I bought this as part of my efforts to be more of a "do-it-yourself"er re: car maintenance -- I bought this to help me remove the windshield wiper arms from my car. This is a 3 - jaw gear puller, yes, with the jaws in triangular arrangement; what the item description doesn't say is that it can also be converted to a 2-jaw puller. There is an extra stud on the shaft, opposite one of the other studs; move one of the jaws to this extra stud, remove one of the other jaws, and--presto!--you have a 2-jaw puller.
